India Trunk is a day dedicated to contemporary Indian textile practice, taking place across two neighbouring rooms — a symposium and a retail pop-up — bringing together some of India's most renowned artisans, designers and educators.
Presented as part of London Textile Month, this year's edition puts the spotlight on artisans as designers, featuring makers who work at the highest level of Indian craft and collaborate with the country's leading textile brands — including Vankar Vishram Valji (kala cotton and Kutch weaving), Sufiyan Ismail Khatri (tenth-generation Ajrakh block printing), and SIDR Craft (bandhani, marbled suminagashi and itajime clamp-dyed textiles).
Room One: Symposium Hosted by Ruth Clifford (Liverpool John Moores University), the symposium brings together panel discussions and film screenings exploring craft-design education and the role of the artisan as designer — centred on the craft communities of Kutch, Gujarat. Speakers include Judy Frater, Founder Director of Somaiya Kala Vidya, and Lokesh Ghai, artist and researcher working across craft activism and heritage practice.
Room Two: Pop-Up A retail pop-up featuring artisans and brands selling directly, with live demonstrations taking place alongside their stands — including block printing, embroidery, and tie-dyeing techniques from SIDR Craft, Lafaani, Subrang Arts and Sameeksha Studio and School of Embroidery

All bookings are non-refundable. However, if you let us know that you are unable to attend an event you have booked at least two weeks before the event, we will open up your place. If we find another participant, you will be offered a credit note.
