In this workshop, Kristine Berg, a textile artisan with 50 years of experience in theatre, film, and costume, will guide you through the meditative practice of origami fabric manipulation. With a ruler, needle, and thread, you will follow measured pathways to transform fabric into sculptural forms that echo landforms, waves, and basketry, all arising from intentional connections and carefully placed stitches.
You’ll start by creating grids with confidence and precision, learning to interpret design charts to stitch two unique pattern options. Along the way, you’ll experiment with different fabrics - either ones you bring from home or materials provided in the workshop. Kristine’s extensive background in millinery, felting, metalwork, and fabric art infuses the workshop with insights into the art of transformation, where a fold becomes a soft peak, and a stitch gives rise to breath-taking texture.
